Buckhead Library

The McAfee3 design team conducted community meetings and provided programming, construction drawings with specifications, and construction administration for this project. The Buckhead Library project is a renovation of an existing library located at 269 Buckhead Avenue, NE, Atlanta, GA. The existing library is a single story building and contains a gross floor area of approximately 19,000 sf. The exterior renovation includes replacement of the existing roof, cleaning and upgrade of a unique building exterior skin, a redesign of the existing exterior entrance with new pedestrian and vehicular canopies, and resurface and restripe of existing parking lot. New exterior glazing systems and shading devices all add to increased energy efficiencies.

The interiors for this project included complete reorganization and expansion and enhancement of meeting rooms to accommodate larger public functions; complete upgrades to all restrooms; a new reflected ceiling plan; redesigned floor spaces and circulation areas to separate and enhanced children, teens and adult reading and activities; and reorganizing of all stack areas to expand digital media, lower the height of the shelves, and reorient the layout of the shelves and stacks for better visual and safety observation from centralized locations. All new staff areas were relocated and designed for new technologies and efficiencies. During the design development phase, McAfee3 developed materials board with color palate options. In close collaboration with the owners, new carpet tile schemes and paint color themes were selected based on activity and function of the spaces. The building is fully sprinklered.
